The Leamington slum clearance company
After the first world war, Leamington built its first council houses. But the economic rents charged were too high to be affordable to the people in the worst slums, including in the streets behind the Parade, Leamington’s finest street. The Leamington Slum Clearance Ltd., was set up in 1926 with the aim of providing decent homes for these desperately poor residents. This talk by Barry Franklin will look at how concerned citizens worked to bring this about.
Start 7.30 pm. All welcome, admission free.
