SEPT 2008

PLANS FROM MEETING OF 30 September 2008

Planning Application W2008/0119LB  County Museum, Market Place, Warwick

Dear Ms Butler,

We welcome the proposal to move the museum entrance to the south east elevation facing Swan Street, it will result in a more attractive and easier access and a greater appreciation of the design of this handsome building. We are not in favour of the plasma information screens mounted on the doorway, by their nature they will be eye catching and create a distraction from the importance of the building.

We are not happy with “The Market Hall” lettering within the arch which will be lost in shadows and reflections. The building has had many uses and we would prefer to see the single word “Museum” etched on the horizontal panel above the door and below the springing of the arch.

The application covers the replacement of all glazing to all ground floor windows to be phased and carried out in conjunction with internal refurbishment; we are concerned that internal fixtures will be clearly visible through the glass and would ask that these be detailed before permission to change the glass be granted.

The colour of the window frames has yet to be specified, we would ask for a warm dark grey and not a battleship blue grey. The metalwork of the door should be of the same colour.

The museum contains many valuable artefacts and articles of local interest and historic importance, the new entrance does look vulnerable and should be protected by a strategically placed heavy duty bench in front of it.

We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.

Planning Application W2008/1015LB  The Abbotsford, Barrack Street, Warwick.

Dear Ms Prince

We found no drawing included in this application although the description seems to tally with an existing brick built structure which is 2 metres wide, about 6 metres long and partially roofed by a felt covered panel. This structure is unsightly and blocks the view across the race course from the pathway between the County Council building and the Abbotsford.   It is located in full view within the curtilage of a grade ll* listed building in the Conservation Area and represents an unacceptable eyesore. We would reiterate our call for a properly designed pump house and bin store in keeping with its situation and suggest that consideration be given to locating the pumps in cellar of the main building.

If this application is in respect of the existing bin store, then we would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission.

Planning Application W2008/1309   Lidl, Myton Road, Warwick

Dear Mr Haslett

We wish to object to the proposal to erect a large illuminated sign on verge at the entrance to the proposed supermarket on Myton Road. As there will be adequate signage on the building itself the sign will serve no purpose, it will intrude on the residents of nearby  dwellings, detract from the amenity and will contravene Local Plan policy DP1 in not harmonising with the existing settlement. The traffic speed is restricted to 30 mph in the area of the development so there is no requirement for a large sign in this position to attract the attention of the occupants of fast moving cars.

We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for the roadside sign proposed in this application.

Planning Application W2008/1314LB   18 Mill Street, Warwick.

Dear Sir

While not objecting to the proposed development we are disappointed that there are no plans to improve roadside frontage and so enhancing the Conservation Area in accordance with Local Plan policy DAP8. The opportunity arising from developments on the site should be taken to change the small high level windows in the study extension to a design that is in keeping with those of the main house facade.

There are no details given in the application of the “appropriate” windows proposed for the new extension, we would ask the planning officers to ensure that they are of good quality and design appropriate to a listed building in a Conservation Area.

Planning Application W2008/1338  Geberit Sales, 2 Academy Drive, Warwick.

Dear Sir

We wish to object to the planning proposal to install a large illuminated sign high on the wall of the above building facing Stratford Road. It is our view that the sign will serve no useful purpose in that it will give no direction to the premises and will be hidden as the landscaping trees mature. The sign should be on the south facing side giving direction from Edgehill Drive.

We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.

Planning Application W2008/1350  IBM Site, Birmingham Road, Warwick.

Dear Sir

The signs proposed for the Birmingham Road and Wedgenock Lane are too big, too intrusive and are difficult to read. The site is not on an industrial estate or business park but set in semi-rural surroundings at the entrance to the town. We see the sideways on lettering as a distracting fashionable fad which serves no purpose and we see no point in listing the occupants of the site on the signs as drivers will be unable to stop to read them.  IBM’s sign has been perfectly adequate all these years and we would strongly recommend something similar for Opus 40.

We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.

Planning Application W2008/1357   133 Cape Road, Warwick

Dear Sir

We wish to object to the planning application for a roller shutter over the entrance door to this shop. It is our view that its imputations of siege demeans the local residential area and would suggest that a white steel grill installed inside the door would provide the same degree of security.

We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.

Planning Application W2008/1366   69 & 71 Emscote Road, Warwick.

Dear Sir

We see Jersey Villa (No 69) as a suburban dwelling at the old boundary of the town so are opposed to removal of the hedge, it is our view that railings will not be in keeping with the villa’s architecture and do nothing to reduce traffic noise. The same applies to No. 71 where a new hedge should be planted.

We would like to see a condition attached to any permission to return the windows at No. 71 to their original sashes.

The application does not seem to cover the change of use of the extension of 71 to forming part of the bed and breakfast facilities of No. 69.

We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.
