Dear Ms Butler
We wish to welcome this proposal to provide local shopping and services.
Planning Application W2010/ 1034. Park Tavern, 27 Lakin Road, Warwick
Dear Mr Smith
Because of the close vicinity of nearby houses we are concerned that smoke and noise arising from this smoking shelter may impinge on the amenity of local residents. We would ask you as planning officer to ensure that they will not.
Planning Application W2010/ 1202 Warwickshire County Council, Shire Hall, Northgate Street, Warwick.
Dear Ms Butler
Unfortunately there is inadequate information in this application regarding the proposed lighting in the two offices where the suspended ceiling is to be removed. We are concerned that inappropriate lighting, such as fluorescent tubes, may be installed which will be visible from Northgate Street to the detriment of the appearance this important listed building. We would ask you to satisfy yourself that the proposed lighting will be in keeping.

Planning Application W2010/1201 Gog Brook and Fishers’ Brook. Warwick
Dear Mr Wallsgrove
These works were agreed as part of the Southwest Warwick development, they should not be deferred as there is a risk of flooding to the built housing and because the absence of the watercourse flood alleviation scheme is restricting further development of the site.
Planning Application W2010/1220 Oken’s House, Castle Street, Warwick.
Dear Ms Butler
It is unclear from the planning application why the personal condition was imposed by W05/1380 but as far as we can tell the steps taken to protect this historic building at that time are still relevant today. The personal condition should not be relaxed but transferred to a suitable new proprietor to ensure that this protection is maintained. We are quite happy for Oken’s House to continue to be used as a tea rooms and shop.
Planning Application W2010/ 1229TC Electrical Cabinet, Opposite 8 West Street, Warwick.
Dear Mr Wallsgrove
We are very concerned at the lack of respect shown to the Conservation Area by the applicants. The site proposed for the jointing chamber in West Street is surrounded by listed buildings, The Westgate and St James Chapel and the Lord Leycester Hospital all Grade l. No. 6 West Street, the old St Pauls Vicarage with its listed wall, together with 8 and 10 West Street are listed Grade ll. On the opposite side of the road, Nos. 21 and 23 The Malt House, and the group to No. 29 are all listed Grade ll. These buildings are protected from developments which will adversely affect their setting by policy DAP 4 in the Local Plan. Developments are also expected to respect the setting of Conservation Areas and important views into and out of them by policy DAP 8. The jointing chamber will detract from the setting of the listed buildings and the Conservation Area and from the high quality paving in the area: it will obstruct the free passage of pedestrians and present a hazard to those with limited vision and those who are blind. It will in no way enhance the Conservation Area.
Ideally the chamber should be put underground, the premium cost to do so is the normal additional expense to be expected when carrying out works in an important historic setting. Otherwise the cabinet must be placed in the car park behind the wall of No 6 West Street, by negotiating a way leave with the owners of the property.
The Council should refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.
Planning Application W2010/ 1230TC Electrical cabinet on highway fronting 5 Old Square, Warwick.
Dear Mr Wallsgrove
We are very concerned at the lack of respect shown to the Conservation Area by the applicant. The site proposed for the jointing chamber in Old Square is surrounded by listed buildings in Church Street, Northgate Street and Old Square it is also opposite to St Mary’s Church listed grade A. All of these buildings are protected from developments which will adversely affect their setting by policy DAP 4 in the Local Plan. Developments are also expected to respect the setting of Conservation Areas and important views into and out of them by policy DAP 8. The jointing chamber will detract from the listed buildings, from the Conservation Area and from the high quality paving in the area: it will obstruct the free passage of pedestrians and present a hazard to those with limited vision and those who are blind.
Ideally the chamber should be put underground, the premium cost to do so is the normal additional expense to be expected when carrying out works in an important historic setting. An alternative would be to locate it in New Street car park, which is close by behind the Millennium Garden (which is a possible building development site), by negotiating a way leave with the owners of the property who are Warwick District Council. Ask the Council to refuse planning permission.
The Council should refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.
Planning Application W2010/1260 6 West Street, Warwick.
Dear Ms Butler
We see these boards as advertisements and not as trade signs. Signage should be restricted to trade signs, appropriate to this listed building, at the front door and at the rear gated entrance. The site proposed for the signage in West Street is surrounded by listed buildings The West gate and St James Chapel and the Lord Leycester Hospital all Grade 1, The wall at No. 6 West Street, the old St Pauls Vicarage, is listed Grade II, together with 8 and 10 West Street and on the opposite side of the road Nos. 21 and 23 The Malt House and the group to No. 29. All of these buildings are protected from developments which will adversely affect their setting by policy DAP 4 in the Local Plan. Developments are also expected to respect the setting of Conservation Areas and important views into and out of them by policy DAP 8.
We would ask the Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.
Planning Application W2010/ 1266 WCC Application, Newburgh School, Warwick.
Dear Ms Galloway
We are very concerned at the proposed new main entrance to Newburgh School which appears to have been designed to prioritise the needs of motorists and service vehicles and not those of pedestrians and schoolchildren.
The access to the car park should be separate and moved to the west utilising the existing maintenance ground entrance, this will enable the pedestrian entrance to be unencumbered by a pedestrian crossing and the dangers of the mix of children and moving cars removed. The vehicle entrance for service deliveries should not be widened nor the kerb splay radii increased, the pavement should be given priority at the entrance and the vehicle crossing place reduced to a minimum; the proposed new layout would create an unnecessary increased hazard to pupils walking to the school from the east. The appearance of the school entrance should enchant primary school children, not resemble a distribution depot.
We regret the resiting of the highly successful play sculpture away from the front of the school, this work of art reflects the ethos of the school and represents its individuality, It should be placed once again at the front.
We are reassured that there will be more trees on the site after the development than there are at present, however the displaced orchard trees, in which there is a great deal of community investment, should be dug up and replanted, not just replaced.
