PLANS FROM 19th MAY 2008

Herewith responses to planning applications from the meeting of 19 May2008.

Planning Application W2008/0603  Cape Store, 133 Cape Road, Warwick.

Dear Sir
We wish to object to the proposal to install a roller shutter over the front entrance to these premises. Such shutters detract from the amenity of the area implying that the area is run down and unsafe. Security can be improved by installing protection inside the door, this has been carried out successfully at Baileys Fishing Tackle shop at 30 Emscote Road and at the Drum Shop in Smith Street, Warwick.  We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.

Planning Application W2008/0626  Cedar Pools, 3 Myton Crescent, Warwick.

Dear Sir
We wish to object to the industrial style fencing, sliding gate and hard paving proposed for the frontage of this dwelling. The dwelling fronts the historic Fieldhead Lane and the development will have a devastating effect on the rural character of the lane. Should a fence be seen as essential then it should be hidden from the lane by a thick hedgerow.
We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.

Planning Application W2008/0638.  Warwick Racecourse, Hampton Road, Warwick.

Dear Mr Wallsgrove
As we see it, a marquee is a temporary structure that is taken down when not in use. The building that has been erected, and is the subject of this planning application, cannot be easily disassembled, it has rigid walls and a glazed full length frontage and, but for the plastic roof, might be considered to be a permanent structure. If the Council is minded to grant planning permission for this application we would ask that it be on condition that its use is restricted to a period of two years only.

Planning Application W2008/0632/0633LB. 12 Mill Street, Warwick.

Dear Sir
It is our view that the standard window with its night ventilator designated as W5 on the plans is inappropriate in this setting and should be replaced by one that is more suitable for a listed building.  We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.

Planning Application W2008/0690   3 Radio House, Swan Street, Warwick.

Dear Sir
We strongly support the Council’s stand against Swan Neck lighting over shop fronts and other premises in the Conservation Area. As there were no details of the uplighters provided with this application we leave it to the Conservation Officer to ensure that the replacement lighting installed  conforms to the Council’s rules.

Planning Application W2008/0733  Wheatsheaf Hotel, 54 West Street, Warwick.

Dear Sir
We strongly support the Council’s stand against the use Swan Neck lighting fittings in the Conservation Area. We wish to object to both the existing and the proposed signs for the Chilli ‘n’ Spice Indian Restaurant. The gold lettering on the existing signs are mounted on green acrylic which is not in keeping with this handsome building in the Conservation Area. The proposed signs with lettering mounted on clear acrylic will be worse, the acrylic will become scruffy and opaque over time and will reflect the flood lighting. We would prefer to see hand painted signs on wooden boards, preferably not illuminated, and placed to reflect the symmetry of the building.  We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.
