Notes from Meeting April 6th 2010
Planning Application W20010/ 0231 Warwick Castle.
Dear Ms Prince,
We wish to object to the application for the retention of the temporary foundations for, and the continued use of, the trebuchet on
the island at Warwick Castle. The Castle is not only an Ancient Monument but the grounds are listed as grade 1 in the English Heritage register of parks and gardens of special interest in England and is included in the Warwick District register of important historic parks and gardens. The machine, which
has no direct historical links with the Castle, intrudes into the internationally famous setting of the castle and harms its historic structure, character and setting in contravention Local Plan policy DAP 11.
The setting of the castle is further protected by Local Plan policy DAP4, Protection of Listed Buildings, which prohibits developments that will adversely affect the setting of a listed building. The castle and its grounds are in a Conservation Area which is protected by policy DAP 8 which expects development to respect the setting of the Conservation Areas and important views both in and out of them. We ask the Council to refuses planning permission for this application.
Planning Application W2009/ 0232 Warwick Castle
Dear Ms Prince,
We wish to object to the application for the retention of the temporary storage hut located on the edge of one of the main historic landscaped walks in the grounds of Warwick Castle. The grounds of the castle are listed as grade 1 in the English Heritage register of parks and gardens of special interest in England and is included in the Warwick District register of important historic parks and gardens. The storage hut is a nasty mean intrusion into the landscape whose impact was underestimated when temporary permission was originally granted for its siting, now that the permission has expired the opportunity should be taken to have it removed. Local Plan policy DAP 11 protects the castle grounds from developments that adversely affects their character and setting while the setting of the castle is further protected by Local Plan policy DAP4, Protection of Listed Buildings, which prohibits developments that will adversely affect the setting of a listed building. The castle and its grounds are in the Conservation Area which is protected by policy DAP 8 which expects development to respect the setting of Conservation Areas and important views both in and out of them. We ask the Council to refuses planning permission for this application.
