PLANNING

PLANNING APPLICATIONS

The general policy of the Warwick District Council is to allow the Officers of the Planning Department to approve most planning appilcations. However if objections to the plans are received from the Warwick Society, or other persons, then the matter is put before the Planning Committtee for their consideration.
The committee of the Society meets regularly to inspect and consider any planning application that may impact on the life of our town.

We send many letters (currently we are using emails) on planning matters, to the local authority and other bodies in a continual attempt to improve the quality of building work in the town, especially within the conservation area.

PLANS FROM 8th JUNE 2008

Planning Application W2008/0613LB   52 High Street, Warwick.

Dear Mr Wallsgrove.

There was no drawing with this application just a change of material to brass; presumably a replacement sign would retain the same style of lettering and the ugly arrow that we took exception to in our response to planning application W2008/268LB in March. While having sympathy for the confusion over house numbers as a result of the bricking up of the High Street entrance to this handsome listed building we don’t think the signs are necessary  The entrance in Brooke Street already has full details of the address engraved in the large glass fanlight over the front door.

We wish then to object to the proposed replacement signs. They are too big. The incised black lettering is in an unattractive font and the directional arrow is clumsy and ugly. While such signs might be suited to a commercial application on a modern office block they are unsuited for use on domestic dwellings adjacent to the Lord Leycester Hospital.

We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application.

Planning Application W2008/0678  19 Capulet Drive, Heathcote.

Dear Sirs

We are anxious to monitor developments on the Heathcote housing estate but there were no drawings of the proposed side extension at the above address with this planning application, so are unable to comment.

Planning Application W2008/0778/0779LB  27 Smith Street, Warwick.

Dear Sirs

While welcoming the improvements to windows of this building we would prefer to see the rear window changed to a full casement window, without the the top lights, which would be more appropriate. We would ask you to ensure that he central windows of the new ground floor window (matching the Venetian window above) is a sash window; the drawing shows diagonals marked on the windows which usually  indicates that they are hung from top hinges.

Planning Application W2008/0804  23 Avon Street, Warwick.

Dear Sir

While not objecting to the proposed extension we are opposed to the proposed boundary wall which will reduce traffic sight lines at a hazardous road junction. The wall will be also out of keeping with the open character of the neighbourhood where other properties such as Kemp Close and Mercia Way are bounded by low walls or have no defined boundary.

We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.

Planning Application W2008/810  43 Dickens Road, Warwick.

Dear Sir

It is our opinion that the proposed porch has a mean look and does nothing to enhance the appearance of the house, the top of the door should be at least as high as the top of the side entrance door. The applicant should be asked to improve the design.

We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application in its present form.

Planning Application W2008/0814 Warwick Castle, Warwick.

Dear Sir

While this site for the adventure playground is very much preferable to Pageant Field we do have concerns over the disturbance to the residents of Castle Lane and other neighbours by noise arising from the playground’s elevated position; we would ask that any permission includes conditions to control it.  Excessive noise levels should be monitored and alterations made to the play equipment to reduce it. There should be no amplified music, battle ground noises or public announcements. We note that the application is for five years; the acceptability of the level of noise should be a prime consideration when the time comes for renewal and when there are proposals put forward for increased activity.

Planning Application W2008/0822     Mark Antony Drive, Heathcote, Warwick.

Dear Sir

We wish to object to the proposals contained in this planning application on grounds of over-development. The housing estate is not ten years old; the open spaces which are part of the design of its amenity would be adversely affected by these proposals. Taking the building line up to the edge of the pavement at the expense of trees and shrubs should be resisted as it would set a dangerous precedent for the rest of the site.

We would ask Warwick District Council to refuse planning permission for this application.
